YDD finished Because of Winn-Dixie. Classic! Love it! Cutest story.
Now, we're watching the movie--like right this very minute. Like it loads, except for the one expletive, so far, uttered by Otis.
Auto-biographically: I was a blondie, born and growing up in a tiny Florida town, until I was 6. Quaint. I love that this story highlights the virtues of small-town Florida living.
Except for there not being much work, besides for at the factory, or at the grocery store, and what-have-you, it was the best life--nature to see, friends and family everywhere you went, church, awesome food that someone you know grew. Not to mention, jumping out of the back of the truck to open the gate and jumping back in, so you can feel the bumpety-bump of driving over the cattle gap.
I honestly don't know why there are so many fewer hours in the day than there was then. Maybe it's because I'm older, or maybe because the city does that to ya. Suddenly, there is too much to do and not enough time to do it.
It will take me 45 minutes to drive to school this summer. I'd rather drive 15 minutes to town (from outside the city limits) or walk 15 to a nice big field with a gigantic oak to sit under...or in.
People don't like Florida, but these are the ones that don't know the REAL Florida. Gorgeous, time-honoring land that isn't about Disney or riding the movies, or visiting a whale, or going to the beach (though that's nice, too).
That is one of the biggest reasons I like this book. It's very wholesome, as is the movie. I like wholesome.
